Love is in the Air

Valentine’s Day

It’s that time of year; Valentine’s Day. That magical holiday where thousands of dollars are spent on flowers, chocolates, cards and our favorite, JEWELRY! Like its predecessor, Christmas, Valentine’s Day can also be a bit stressful and extremely expensive. So how did we come to celebrate this holiday of love?
History says it all started with a saint called Valentine. The internet is full of stories about how this particular saint became known as the patron saint of lovers, it involves persecution and executions so for this post we are going to leave it at that and turn our attention to the more frivolous facts about Valentine’s Day. Besides, for all of the stories stemming from the religious realm and St. Valentine, there are also many stories expounding on the mythical adventures of Cupid, god of desire, erotic love, attraction and affection. And for sure, this post isn’t going there!

Did You Know?

Approximately 150 million Valentine’s Day cards are exchanged annually, making Valentine’s Day the second most popular card-sending holiday after Christmas. *

More than 40,000 Americans are employed at chocolate companies. *

In addition to the U.S., Valentine’s Day is celebrated in Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, France, Australia, Denmark, Italy and Japan. *

It’s not a stretch to say everyone from young children to young at heart is someone’s special valentine. As this season of love is all around us, take the time to let that special someone(s) know how much they mean to you. After all, love is in the air!

We Love Fall

Crisp mornings, mild sunny days, falling leaves, beautiful russet colors, football games, and bonfires signal to us at Sister Charm that fall is here. Fall just happens to be our favorite time of year, but when you live in Minnesota, it is also bittersweet, because the next season can be brutal a.k.a. winter!

This fall the new fashion trends speak to us big time! Flannels, plaids, skirts long and short, jean jackets, skinny jeans and leggings paired with long sweaters and leather booties and over the knee boots, we say, YES PLEASE! One trend that we really love are the vintage colors and vintage accessories, so that got us thinking, which got us creating and before you know it…we have some vintage pieces of our own. Check out our Etsy shop for these new, one-of-a-kind pieces. For more Fall fashion trends visit Cosmopolitan magazine for what is trending new for fall.

Wearing White After Labor Day…Go Ahead

As summer winds down and gives way to our favorite time of year, fall, we can’t help but feel a bit nostalgic saying good bye to some great summer memories. Then comes Labor Day and that great old fashion rule rears its head…no more white after Labor Day! Say what? No more white sandals, white purses, white shorts, white capris, etc. Think again; before you are ready to pack away all of your white apparel, check out this article and video from Time.com, Why It’s Okay to Wear White After Labor Day

Magic Skirt

There seems to be a new fashion rage sweeping the nation, well okay, maybe just Sister Charm’s world and that is the maxi skirt. It seems everyone but us has one, that is until last weekend. More on that later. Young or old, bigger, smaller and everyone in-between seems to look good in a maxi. This past weekend, we were at our cousin’s wedding and started talking about the maxi skirt phenomenon and my aunt thought we said magic skirt so now we refer to the skirt as a “magic” skirt. It seemed no matter where we went last weekend the magic skirt was everywhere! So what are girl’s to do? Shop of course! We hit up a big sale at Herberger’s and with coupons in hand, it seemed the skirt gods were practically begging us to buy one and we sure did. As per usual, we both bought a black and white stripe after trying on every style and color imaginable. We were like two kids in a candy store. I think we must have skipped to the car we were so happy to be part of the “magic skirt” rage.
Unfortunately, our bargain magic skirts set us up with a new dilemma; what would we wear for a top with these new magic skirts? Cue the circus music…♥
