As summer winds down and gives way to our favorite time of year, fall, we can’t help but feel a bit nostalgic saying good bye to some great summer memories. Then comes Labor Day and that great old fashion rule rears its head…no more white after Labor Day! Say what? No more white sandals, white purses, white shorts, white capris, etc. Think again; before you are ready to pack away all of your white apparel, check out this article and video from Time.com, Why It’s Okay to Wear White After Labor Day
It’s Friday, so it seems like a good day to share some jewelry trivia!
Pearls were believed by the ancient Greeks to promote marital bliss and have been used by brides ever since.

You can make a 60-mile wire out of a single ounce of gold.

Amethyst is said to protect against drunkenness if worn as an amulet. Who knew!
The word necklace comes from the Latin word laqueus, which means ‘noose’. Yikes!

Since we began our journey of taking our dream to own a creative business together, the most rewarding aspect, besides working together, is being able to create special, hand stamped pieces that will be given to let someone know how much they are loved, supported and even to inspire. This has been especially true this week, as parents are sending their children back to school, whether it be elementary, junior or high school and college.
The most popular pieces this week are “I Love You A Bushel and A Peck and A Hug Around the Neck” and “Everything Happens For A Reason“. We are so proud to be a part of these memories and are more than happy to personalize each order as best we can.
Best wishes for a happy, healthy and safe school year!
Since we took the exterior door out of our laundry room and replaced it with a window, new curtains were in order. Our laundry room is eclectic, bright by design, and also doubles as jewelry supply storage and ready-made curtains or valances didn’t have the pattern I was looking for. So off to Joann Fabrics, my home away from home, to get some fabric.
I should come clean and divulge that I do own a very nice sewing machine given to me by my mother years ago. And yes, I do know how to use it! However, it is in the basement and would have required some serious muscle and a lot of persuasion with the hubby to haul it upstairs. Besides, I am a very impatient person, and iron-on hem tape was a quick fix! In less than an hour, I made two valences, and had them hanging up and was pretty proud of myself too!
Supplies – short & sweet:
• Tape measure
• Heat N’ Bond iron on hem tape (I always use the “super hold”)
Here’s what I did:
First, I measured the approximate height that I wanted the curtains to be (my window is 32” wide and 32” tall, I wanted my valance to be about 15” finished). I added two inches on the top and one and a half inch on the bottom to accommodate the hems. My fabric was 58” wide, so I didn’t need to cut any of the width, I just cut the length. The measurement was 15” + 2” + 1.5” = 18.5” for total length.
After I had my fabric the size I wanted it, I turned it over so the backside was facing up. I measured an inch hem on each side, turned it over, and ironed the hem so it would stay folded over. I cut a piece of the iron-on hem tape the length of the side (18.5 inches) and placed it inside the folded over hem, ironed over the section for about one minute and went on to the other side and did the same steps.
I then went to the top of the valance and measured 2”, folded it over, ironed a hem and cut a 12” piece of iron-on hem tape and placed it just inside the hem so it was flush with the top of the hem and ironed it for about 30 seconds. And continued this process until I had made it across all 58”. It goes better to do it in 12” strips so it is easier to handle on the ironing board. It is important that the iron-on tape be at the top of the hem so there is an inch below that isn’t ironed shut for the curtain rod to slide through.
I did the same process for the bottom hem. The bottom hem is only 1.5” because you don’t need a wide hem to accommodate a curtain rod.
When the curtain was done, I used a spring tension rod so the valance would fit inside the window and didn’t require any hardware to be used (or bug hubby for power tools, level, etc.).
When Sister Charm creates their jewelry, we often refer to this site to verify what the birthstone is for a particular month so we add the right gem to the necklace, if it requires one in the design. I just realized today, that you can click on your birth month and get the history behind your birthstone. For instance, my birthday is in June: I knew my birthstone was either a Pearl or an Alexandrite. But actually, June counts three gems as birthstones, Pearl, Alexandrite, and Moonstone. Who knew!

Our parents have a beautiful backyard with a pool. Our whole family has spent many a weekend swimming, napping, eating dinner, and conversing by the pool. Yesterday, dad had some cement work done to fix an area that had started to crack on the outer rim of the deck. So it was probably a good thing that the little grandkids weren’t there to step in the fresh cement. Well, who would have thought his oldest daughter would be the troublemaker. Mom and I were out admiring the new cement and visiting when I stepped back and put a nice size ten image of a cheap flip flop in the freshly poured cement. Mom thought it was hysterical…(flash back to when I was a teenager and had to go tell my dad I dinged the car, the boat, the car again. You get the picture). Even having to go in and tell dad what I did brought that feeling of dread I had as a teenager. So in the house I went, mom in tow, cackling like a hen to tell dad my mishap. I no sooner said, “dad, you won’t believe…” and he says, “you stepped in the cement”. The years haven’t changed that look of good lord, what have you done now, or the effect it had on me then and still does now. So out we go to survey the damage. Dad takes a broom and tries to even out the cement, mom still laughing. All in all, it doesn’t look that bad, but maybe there is a silver lining to it all. It will always be a memory I will have about that day with my parent’s and the laugh we had over the fiasco and that lost memory about what it meant to be a teenager again.
Life is busy. Life is demanding. Life itself can suck the life right out of you. Life is a journey. Life is exciting. Life is unsettling. Life is:
In the day-to-day journey of living our life, it is not uncommon for us to believe all of the above is true, at any given moment. We have demanding jobs, family’s, schedules, friends, many distractions and also the inner voice that perpetuates those demands with thoughts of insecurity, should-of, would-of, could-of’s and more. And don’t forget trying to be what everyone and everything around us tells us we should be. No wonder we are not living the life we deep down inside of us want to live. The life we fantasize about in our dreams, our subconscious and always feel is unattainable. We create bucket lists full of dreams that we tell ourselves can never happen. What’s up with that? It’s time to have a come to Jesus with ourselves and rediscover who we are and all of the blessings we have, and are, to those around us. It’s time to find our mojo, our passion, and what we find our joy in. We need to take a chance, start something that creatively speaks to us, or inspires us or just makes us smile. Whatever it is, it doesn’t have to be a huge step, many small steps can still reach a mile. You might fail, but I guarantee you will learn something new about yourself and find the faith to make a different turn until you reach your personal destination. No matter how busy we are, if we don’t stop and take the time to love the life we live, our journey will be clouded with frustration, self doubt, and we don’t have time for that! We got places to go, people to see, and a bucket that is running over with dreams…What’s in your bucket?

Silver Plated, Copper and Brass metals have a tendency to tarnish and this is normal. Avoid exposing your jewelry to harsh chemicals such as chlorine, cosmetics, hair spray, and perfume. Get beautiful first and then put on your jewelry! Also, avoid storing your jewelry out in the open air and humidity to reduce tarnishing. Sister Charm suggests you remove your jewelry before going to bed to avoid breaking your chain. The metals in your jewelry are not scratch proof, to keep scratches to a minimum, store your jewelry so that it isn’t rubbing against other metals. You can keep your jewelry from Sister Charm looking good-as-new by using a jewelry polishing cloth. If you need to bring out the shine or mend light scratches, you can use the finest of steel wool to gently polish your piece by rubbing in one direction up or down and then following with your jewelry cloth.
